Another top recruit from New England is heading to play at Duke.
Sebastian Wilkins, one of the best prospects from the region, announced his commitment to the Blue Devils on Friday afternoon. The 6-foot-8 forward from Canton, Mass., chose Duke over Maryland, and said he’ll be reclassifying from the 2026 to the 2025 class, meaning he’ll begin his college basketball career next season.
Wilkins’ commitment comes less than two months after Maine native Cooper Flagg – the likely No. 1 pick in next month’s NBA draft – led Duke to the national championship game. Wilkins, a standout at Brewster Academy and the Mass Rivals AAU program, will join a star-studded freshman class under head coach Jon Scheyer that also includes Cameron and Cayden Boozer.
Duke’s recruitment of Wilkins came suddenly and impactfully. The Blue Devils offered him a scholarship on April 18, and he made his official visit on the first weekend of May. Just a few weeks later, he committed to the storied program.
“Just how straightforward they were with me, and their vision for me, how they can see me making a huge impact and stuff like that, and the belief in me,” Wilkins said on the 24/7 Sports YouTube channel on why he chose Duke. “They were just honest with me through everything.”
Wilkins started his high school career at Lawrence Academy before spending the last two seasons at Brewster, where he rapidly ascended on the national radar. He had a breakout season this winter, averaging 13.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game to lead the Bobcats to the semifinals of Chipotle Nationals and a No. 3 national ranking.
Wilkins — who was universally ranked as a top-50 recruit in the 2026 class before his reclassification — is an athletic two-way wing who improved his outside shot and showcased his defensive versatility this season. In a bigger role this season due to the injury of star Dwayne Aristode, Wilkins became more of a leader, too.
“Competitor, leader, versatile, doesn’t really care what position he’s playing, who he’s guarding, he’s just going to produce night in and night out,” Brewster coach Jason Smith said. “This year, he just took his game to the next level.”
