TD Garden has already hosted plenty of high-stakes basketball this year, and now the arena is adding the WNBA to its summer calendar.
The Connecticut Sun and Los Angeles Sparks will meet in Boston for a regular season contest on Aug. 20 with a slate of fun events in the preceding day.
The matchup will feature New England’s local squad in the Sun, who are again a championship contender. Connecticut started the season 10-0 and is led by Alyssa Thomas, the league’s all-time leader in triple-doubles, as well as DeWanna Bonner, who ranks fifth all-time in career points.
Connecticut also signed Veronica Burton on June 5. Burton, a Newton, Mass. native, was chosen seventh in the 2022 WNBA Draft and played two years with the Dallas Wings before being released this year.
The Sparks are headlined by Cameron Brink, the second pick in this year’s draft, as well as No. 4 pick Rickea Jackson and two-time All-Star Dearica Hamby.
The fun begins Aug. 17 with the Connecticut Sun Youth Sports Festival at the New Balance Track in Boston. Game On! Fenway will host a watch party for the Sun’s road game against the Atlanta Dream on Aug. 18. And on Aug. 20, there will be a block part with live music and giveaways outside TD Garden.
