With Biddeford pulling off an upset win against Cheverus last night, no undefeated teams remain in this week’s installation of our Maine girls basketball Top 10.
As the regular season comes comes to a close, Cheverus and South Portland will meet this week in a battle for A South supremacy. Two other A South teams — Sanford and Biddeford — also moved up in this week’s ranking. They also play each other later this week.
Juggernaut Oceanside, led by freshman Olivia Breen, just concluded its one-loss season, while Gardiner and Gray-New Gloucester are the other Class B representatives making the list.
No matter which team, conference, or class you’re invested in, gear up for what’s sure to be an exciting postseason in Maine girls basketball by taking a look at our final regular-season ranking.
1. Cheverus (16-1)
Previous rank: 1
Next game: at South Portland, Feb. 5, 6:30 p.m.
No. 6 Biddeford spoiled Cheverus’ chances at an undefeated season on Tuesday night, handing the Stags a 54-40 road loss. And though the Stags’ perfect season might have ended, they still have a chance to clinch the A South No. 1 seed with a win at South Portland on Thursday.
Cheverus started its season with a five-point win over South Portland—a game in which star senior Kylie Lamson put up 17 points. Let’s see if history can repeat itself as the Stags look to remain on top.
2. South Portland (16-1)
Previous rank: 3
Next game: vs. Cheverus, Feb. 5, 6:30 p.m.
South Portland has rattled off 16 straight wins since a season-opening hiccup to Cheverus, even beating No. 6 Biddeford and No. 4 Sanford along the way. The defending state champs must face A South juggernaut Cheverus once again to finish off their season — if anyone looks ready to do so, though, it’s the Red Riots.
3. Mt. Ararat (16-1)
Previous rank: 2
Next game: at Brunswick, Feb. 5, 5 p.m.
Mt. Ararat beat both Camden Hills and Edward Little in the last week as senior Juliana Allen has continued to shine. The Eagles handed Edward Little (13-4) a 28-point loss on Tuesday — that was the second time this season they’ve beaten the Red Eddies by 20 or more.
The Eagles finish their season against Brunswick, a team they beat 61-19 back on Jan. 13. Barring an upset, Mt. Ararat is well on its way to a 17-1 season.
4. Oceanside (17-1)
Previous rank: 5
Next game: TBD
Oceanside’s recent win over Gardiner is further evidence that the Mariners are among the top few teams in Class B. Olivia Breen and Renee Ripley rallied for 46 combined points to hand Gardiner its first loss. Oh, and perhaps it’s worth mentioning that Breen also became the first girl to ever score 50 points in a game in Oceanside’s history. The freshman scored Oceanside's first 25 points, then added 25 more during the rest of a 77-24 win over Lincoln Academy.
With the last game of the season under its belt (a 74-31 victory over Winslow), Oceanside will have time to catch a bit of rest before the postseason begins.
5. Sanford (16-2)
Previous rank: 6
Next game: vs. Biddeford, Feb. 5, 6 p.m.
Sanford has won seven straight since its loss to South Portland on Jan. 13. The true test, however, will be when red-hot Biddeford comes to town on Thursday, fresh off a win over top-ranked Cheverus. But Sanford has seen Biddeford before — and almost two months ago on the dot, the Spartans beat the Tigers 36-34 for a season-opening win.
6. Biddeford (15-2)
Previous rank: 7
Next game: at Sanford, Feb. 5, 6 p.m.
Biddeford’s hot second-half shooting led it to a 54-40 win over Cheverus, its most impressive win of the season by far. The Tigers are now 1-2 against top-10 opponents, but those two losses were a two-point defeat to Sanford and a five-point loss to No. 2 South Portland, both in December.
The last two games are perhaps the toughest on its schedule, and Biddeford handled the first one with a 14-point win against the top-ranked team in the state. Can it replicate that success against Sanford?
7. Gray-New Gloucester (16-1)
Previous rank: 8
Next game: at Greely, Feb. 4, 6:30 p.m.
The only team to beat Mt. Ararat this season, Gray-New Gloucester is well-deserving of its place in the top 10. The only thing keeping it from a higher spot is the fact that Mt. Ararat was its hardest test by a long shot, and it has played no other top-ranked opponents.
Nonetheless, the Patriots are primed to clinch the No. 1 seed in B South, looking like heavy favorites to beat Greely and finish the season 17-1.
8. Gardiner (16-1)
Previous rank: 9
Next game: at Medomak Valley, Feb. 5, 6:30 p.m.
B North has become Gardiner’s playground. The Tigers are currently undefeated against class opponents as Alexa Quintana and Zoey Sullivan-Brennan have consistently put together strong performances.
Gardiner kept things close with Oceanside right after beating Lawrence in back-to-back games, and Quintana put up a double-double in a 49-44 win over Cony on Jan. 22. The Tigers look well-suited to make a Class B run.
9. Camden Hills (14-3)
Previous rank: 10
Next game: vs. Brewer, Feb. 5, 5 p.m.
Despite Camden Hills having three losses, all came to ranked teams. Plus, the Windjammers have beaten Hampden twice.
Thea Laukka is a tough assignment for opposing defenses, while senior Leah Jones was just selected to play in the 2026 Maine McDonalds All-Star game. The two of them combined for 33 points, 11 rebounds, and seven steals in a 12-point loss to Mt. Ararat last week.
The Windjammers will finish their season, presumably with a win, at home against Brewer.
10. Edward Little (13-4)
Previous rank: 4
Next game: at Lewiston, Feb. 5, 5:30 p.m.
Edward Little is finishing its season on a tough stretch. The Red Eddies have lost three straight, the most recent being a 28-point setback to Mt. Ararat. There’s been bright points this season that have shown what they’re capable of, however — namely wins over Camden Hills, York and Hampden.
What’s next for Edward Little is a bit up in the air. But if the Red Eddies can get going, opponents shouldn’t underestimate them.
