Picking five players for our preseason All-New England team was an excruciating task.
There is so much talent in this area right now, particularly in the senior class. You could reasonably sub in a handful of different players and still have a valid list. But after much thought, these five stars will likely have the greatest impact on their teams this winter season.
To be clear, we are not selecting the five best prospects in New England here. College potential was not taken into account. These five are certainly among the best prospects in the region, but talent, proven production and ability to win at the highest levels all factored into our picks.
Here are our preseason All-New England team members:
Camdyn Nelson, St. Luke's
Class of 2025, 5-8 guard
Hometown: Greenwich, Conn.
The Syracuse commit took home Class B Player of the Year honors after averaging 21.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals last season. Nelson is one of the more unstoppable scorers in New England with her ability to explode past defenders and finish through contact. Also a high-level passer, she’ll lead St. Luke’s title chase this season.
Colleen Phiri, Tilton
Class of 2025, 5-11 wing
Hometown: Haverhill, Mass.
Phiri’s blend of shooting, power and post scoring as a 5-foot-11 wing gets understated. She averaged 18.6 points and 9.2 rebounds during Tilton’s run to the Class AA finals last year and will lead the Rams in the new Class AAA. Phiri committed to Colgate in October and has a great runway for massive numbers this winter.
Jasmyn Cooper, Nobles
Class of 2025, 6-1 wing
Hometown: Easton, Mass.
Cooper, another Syracuse commit, is ranked No. 48 in ESPN’s national 2025 rankings. She’s a pure winner with two NEPSAC titles plus an MIAA championship when she played at Oliver Ames. Cooper can truly do just about everything as a 6-foot-1 point forward. She won ISL MVP last year after averaging 14.2 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists. Nobles has a trio of go-to stars, but Cooper's all-around impact lands her here.
BLEED ORANGE:Â Why Jasmyn Cooper chose Syracuse
Kaelyn Carroll, Tabor
Class of 2025, 6-2 forward
Hometown: Dedham, Mass.
Carroll, the 15th-ranked 2025 player in the country by ESPN, had a statement summer that reminded many why she is one of the most highly-touted New England talents in recent memory. The 6-foot-3 wing is the total package as a scorer with unique ball-handling ability at her size. She’s automatic shooting off the catch but has a full array of pull-up dribble moves she can get to as well. Health permitting, Carroll is in line for a huge senior season, coming off a year where she still made Class AA All-NEPSAC even while dealing with injuries.
TOP PROSPECT:Â How Carroll skyrocketed to her place among the nation's best recruits
Alicia Mitchell, Loomis Chaffee
Class of 2025, 6-4 post
Hometown: Springfield, Mass.
The Columbia-bound center emerged as the rock of Loomis Chaffee’s Class A championship team last winter. Mitchell averaged 13.5 points, 11 rebounds and 2 blocks in her first NEPSAC season with more in store for this winter. She’s a polished interior scorer with reliable mid-range touch and one of the region’s top defensive anchors.
