BROOKLINE, Mass. — We're barely a week away from the reveal of the NEPSAC postseason brackets, and I wanted to get one more look at two teams I'm watching with upset potential in Class AAA.
Hoosac made the trek east to play Dexter Southfield on Friday, earning a 65-46 victory behind a brilliant performance from Anna Moser. They're a team that might not get a high playoff seed, but any AAA opponent should take them extremely seriously with their backcourt firepower and versatile offense.
Dexter was shorthanded, missing star Ella Peper due to a minor injury, and only had eight active players. Hoosac blew the game open early, leading 40-22. but Dexter fought to keep it competitive and cut the gap to 46-36 in the third quarter. That was as close as they'd get.
Here are five standouts from the afternoon.
Anna Moser, Hoosac
Class of 2027, 5-8 guard
Hometown: Rutland, Vt.
Moser exploded for 32 points and eight 3-pointers, and we're talking some deep makes multiple feet behind the arc. She put on a show, scoring with stepbacks and pull-ups, but also putting in serious work off the ball. Hoosac designs so many plays where Moser flies off of baseline screens to the corners and wings, and against a shorthanded Dexter Southfield defense, she feasted. Moser was so prolific on the perimeter that she didn't need to do a whole lot off the dribble, but she did attack some closeouts for buckets and flashed her elite straight-line speed. She's exuding a ton of confidence as one of the top prospects in New England's 2027 class.
Uliana Doronina, Hoosac
Class of 2026, 6-2 guard/forward
Hometown: Russia
Behind Moser was a well-rounded team effort that supported Hoosac's win. Doronina scored all 11 of her points in the first half and is an intriguing combination of size and skill as a wing. She can handle the ball, drive on slower defenders and make the right plays in transition. Doronina also showed off confidence with her post footwork and mid-range scoring. She's a great connector piece for the team who works well off the backcourt of Moser and Carolina Williams.
Ava Mamone, Hoosac
Class of 2025, 5-10 guard/forward
Hometown: Troy, N.Y.
Similarly, Mamone's another dependable wing amidst all the size and versatility in Hoosac's frontcourt. She scored 10 points and hit two 3s mostly working off the ball, and made one quick bucket at the top of the arc that helped Hoosac stave off Dexter's second-half surge. Mamone's form looks smooth and confident, and she also runs the floor hard in transition.
Izzy Adams, Dexter Southfield
Class of 2026, 5-8 guard
Hometown: Walpole, Mass.
Adams did all she could to keep Dexter in this game with 24 points, including 10 in the third quarter when the team made its best run. Her poise and decisiveness getting to her spots was light-years improved from her NEPSAC debut in November. Hoosac seemed hesitant to collapse its defense on Adams, and she took full advantage, bullying defenders all the way to the paint by herself. Adams also hit two 3-pointers, one coming early on a pull-up make where she read the ball-screen defender dropping slightly, saw she had space and fired away. Even though Dexter never came back, Adams also kept up her effort, defending the ball hard the whole way and fighting for rebounds.
Avery Bollin, Dexter Southfield
Class of 2029, 6-3 forward
Hometown: Raynham, Mass.
Bollin (9 points) had a larger role with Peper and others' absence, and she flashed some nice moments. She's already got the size and physical strength of a NEPSAC upperclassman — and she's a reclassed 2029 big. I thought her confidence demanding the ball, putting it on the floor and making moves out of the post was the best I've seen from her yet. As Bollin develops more consistent finishing and shooting touch — it comes in waves right now, which is understandable — she'll have real potential as an inside-out scorer.
