We're about two weeks into the MIAA regular season, and we're starting to get a sense of some players who will help define this year in girls basketball.
Among our latest five stars are a newly-minted 1,000-point scorer and two players who faced off in last year's Division 1 title game. We extended the cutoff to just over a week for this week's awards to neatly account for those Monday games just before holiday break. Our next roundup will come at the start of the week of Jan. 6, and will include notable efforts from Friday's start of winter tournaments.
Coaches and players can submit nominations by emailing Ethan Fuller at ethan.fuller@basketballjournal.com or by messaging him on Twitter/X (@ethman43).
Here are this week’s five standouts:
Peyton DiBiasio, Saugus
Class of 2026, 5-7 guard
DiBiasio tossed in 28 points during last Tuesday's 52-40 win against Gloucester, helping her clear 1,000 points in the process. She's well on track to set Saugus' all-time scoring record (currently 1,110 points) and has been one of the standout guards of the early season.
Evie Schwartz, Lincoln-Sudbury
Class of 2025, 5-10 guard/forward
Schwartz caught fire for Lincoln-Sudbury in last Tuesday's 52-44 victory over Shrewsbury, draining five 3-pointers and finishing with 31 points.
Jaelynn Scott, Wachusett
Class of 2026, 6-0 forward
Scott, one of the top MIAA stars and 2026 prospects, racked up 29 points and 14 rebounds for the Mountaineers in Sunday's 70-51 win against Framingham.
Maddy Steel, Bishop Feehan
Class of 2025, 5-8 guard
Steel shined in the biggest game of the week, with her 25 points powering the Shamrocks to a 60-57 win against St. Mary's in a top-five MIAA matchup. She kept things rolling with 20 points against Archbishop Williams on Friday.
Molly Trahan, Reading
Class of 2025, 5-9 guard
Trahan tallied 30 points in the Rockets' 52-29 win against Melrose last Tuesday, then scored half of Reading's points (20) in Friday's 40-38 nail-biter against Belmont. She's helped Reading to a 2-1 season start.
