The boys prep basketball season is well underway in New England, meaning it's time for the first installment of recognizing the top individual performances of the week.
The combination of the annual National Prep Showcase at Albertus Magnus in New Haven, Conn., and the NMH Tip-Off Classic this past weekend gave us plenty of star performances. And many NEPSAC Class AA and B teams began their seasons, which included a few wild games and notable efforts.
Last season, we limited this space to ‘5 Stars of the Week,’ but we’re opening it up this winter to include as many notable performances that are appropriate. We’ll highlight every week’s top individual games throughout the rest of the season, with a few exceptions. Without enough games during this Thanksgiving week, we’ll skip this week and the weeks of Dec. 22 and 29 for winter break.
Coaches and players are encouraged to submit nominations for our stars of the week. If doing so, please email me at steve.hewitt@basketballjournal.com or by connecting with us or tagging us on Twitter/X (@steve_hewitt or @nehoopjournal) and Instagram (@nebasketballjournal). Be sure to include stats and any context to the player’s performance.
Here are 14 boys prep stars of the week from Nov. 17-23.

DJ Hawkins, St. Thomas More

Hawkins, a member of our 2027 watch list, was the hero of St. Thomas More’s dramatic comeback victory over Western Reserve on Friday. With the game tied and the final seconds of regulation winding down, Johnny Keenan drove the length of the court and found Hawkins wide open in the corner, and he drilled a buzzer-beating triple as time expired. Hawkins finished with 16 points, including going 3-for-5 from distance.
Jack Louridas, Albany Academy
Class of 2026, 6-3 guard
Hometown: Delmar, N.Y.

It was a big week for Albany Academy with its NEPSAC Class AA debut, and the Cadets made an eye-opening first impression with a season-opening home win over MacDuffie before nearly pulling off a road upset of Kimball Union. Louridas powered them with a game-high 22 points vs. MacDuffie and team-high 18 vs. KUA.
