MIAA boys basketball had it all last week.
Our latest stars of the week feature two 40-point scoring efforts, a pair of players with big performances at the Hoophall Classic in Springfield and even one player who fought through a fever to put on a show.

Here are this week’s MIAA boys stars, ranging from games played Jan. 12-18.
Sam Brigham, Pope Francis
Class of 2026, 6-3 guard
Brigham continued his sensational season with an MVP performance at the Hoophall Classic in Springfield on Thursday. In a meeting of the two best teams in Western Mass. – Pope Francis and Springfield Central – Brigham led the Cardinals with 30 points – which included a huge game-tying 3-pointer in the first overtime – in a double overtime 80-78 win. He followed that up with 29-point and 26-point efforts in wins over East Hartford (Conn.) and Archbishop Molloy on back-to-back days. Brigham is now averaging 24.2 points per game for 10-1 Pope Francis, which was No. 3 in the MIAA’s Div. 2 power rankings on Friday.
Jerry Brown, Charlestown
Class of 2027 guard
Brown went off for a career-high 49 points – including 20 in the fourth quarter – in a 93-75 home victory over Madison Park on Jan. 13. Brown and the Townies are now 6-3 with a 4-0 record in the Boston City League.
Brody Bumila, Bishop Feehan
Class of 2026, 6-9 forward
NCAA: Texas (baseball)
Bumila has made a living on this list now for three consecutive weeks – it’s hard to keep him off. The physical forward dominated again with lines of 19 points and 15 rebounds in a victory over Bishop Fenwick before dominating with 39 points and 18 boards in a close loss to Attleboro on Sunday.
Jimmy Farrell, Masconomet
Class of 2026, 6-2 guard
Farrell played through a fever in last Tuesday’s loss to St. Mary’s and didn’t let it slow him down as he scored 26 points, including an electric second-quarter show in which he hit several mid-range jumpers and difficult shots. He sat out the next night’s win over Saugus before returning to score 20 points in a massive Northeastern Conference victory over Beverly.
Connor Houle, Attleboro
Class of 2026, 5-9 guard
A week after posting a career-high 32 points in a win over Oliver Ames, Houle matched that with another 32 in an impressive 83-80 win over Bishop Feehan. He added six assists, with the last coming on Shane Hanrahan’s game-winning 3-pointer with five seconds remaining as the Blue Bombardiers improved to 10-1. Houle also had 15 points and five dimes in a win over Foxboro and 13 points and seven helpers in a blowout victory over Sharon.
Javi Lopez, Central Catholic
Class of 2026, 6-1 guard
Lopez is already highly regarded as the best boys player in MIAA this season, but he earned some national respect at the Hoophall Classic. The senior guard scored 36 points in Central Catholic’s close overtime loss to Bergen Catholic (N.J.), which features Top 100 recruit and Michigan State commit Julius Avent. Lopez went 13-for-15 from the free-throw line and corralled 11 rebounds. Lopez now has four 30-point games this season.
Marcus Magloire, St. John’s Prep
Class of 2028, 6-2 guard
The star sophomore is coming into his own as one of the state’s emerging talents. He dropped 28 points and 14 rebounds in a 67-62 loss to No. 4 Malden Catholic before tallying 26 points in the Eagles’ victory over St. John’s (Shrewsbury).
Kingston Maxwell, Abington
Class of 2026, 6-4 guard
Maxwell continued to put up eye-popping lines last week, tallying 37 points and 11 rebounds in a loss to Oliver Ames before posting 31 points and seven boards in a victory over Middleboro. Maxwell has led the Green Wave to an 8-4 record, including a 5-0 mark in the South Shore Conference.
Yhan Medina, Quincy
Class of 2027, 6-0 guard
Quincy is now 8-3 after a 3-0 week led by Medina, who averaged 25.7 points per game over the three wins. That included a 33-point performance in an 80-57 victory over Silver Lake. The Presidents are 5-3 in the Patriot League heading into Tuesday’s game vs. Marshfield.
Aiden Torres, Lawrence
Class of 2026, 6-0 guard
Torres – who was recognized as a star last week – erupted for a career-high 42 points in Lawrence’s victory over Lowell on Jan. 13, also contributing six rebounds and four assists. He added 24 points and four boards in Friday’s loss to Andover.
