A Shot For Life has become one of the staple organizations among New England sports nonprofits. Summertime basketball here isn’t complete without the ASFL All-Star Games and shooting challenges.
Held in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut, the A Shot For Life Challenge seeks out the best shooters in the respective states through a grueling two-hour contest. Competitors shoot 20 minutes of free throws, 20 minutes of mid-range jumpers and 20 minutes of 3-pointers, then receive a 10-minute break before 30 more minutes of mid-range shots and 30 minutes of 3s. The highest-percentage shooter (with a minimum of 1,000 shots attempted) is crowned the champion.
The challenge has been a cornerstone of ASFL’s fundraising efforts towards cancer research. Founded by Mike Slonina, ASFL has raised millions to support research breakthroughs over the last 15 years. This year’s six basketball challenges alone pooled together more than $130,000.
Here are top three finishers in each of the ASFL Challenge events.
