Way back on Nov. 7, we released our NEPSAC boys preseason Top 10. Newman was No. 1.
More than five months later, Newman never budged. After 38 wins and three championships, the Cardinals went wire to wire at No. 1, cementing themselves as the undisputed best boys team in NEPSAC in 2025-26.
While Newman and Class AA champion Cushing were easy picks for the top two spots, the rest of our final NEPSAC boys Top 10 of the season was less straightforward. A mix of AAA and AA teams make up the rest of the pack, and the margins were small. I put significant weight on playoff results in these rankings, and other factors like key wins during the season, common opponents and the eye test contributed to the decision-making process here.
I’m fully aware that not all schedules are created equal – AAA teams generally have harder schedules and AA teams don’t get the same number of opportunities against high-level teams – and that leaves plenty of room for debate and nuance between team evaluations. Some worthy teams had to be left out.
