We finally have MIAA girls basketball results to analyze!
The regular season began last Thursday, but most top programs opened their schedules this week. All of the heavy hitters have at least one win, so little changed in the rankings — except for one major course correction I need to make involving a Division 1 stalwart.
A minor programming note: You'll see one more Top 10 ranking from us next Wednesday, and then we'll take a week off during holiday tournaments. Once 2026 arrives, MIAA weekly updates will typically come on Mondays.
Here's our latest look at the Top 10.
1. Wachusett (2-0)

Previous rank: 1
Next game: vs. Londonderry (N.H.), Dec. 20, 4:30 p.m.
The Mountaineers have sailed to two wins by 30-plus points, holding Franklin and Algonquin to just 33 points apiece. Teegan Lanpher logged 22 points and 12 points in those outings, and the rest of Wachusett's star trio (Jae Scott and Sophie Gibbons) joined her in double figures against Algonquin. We'll see a great game on Saturday; Londonderry is one of the two best teams in New Hampshire and one of the elite programs in all of New England. This is about as good of a cross-state matchup as you'll find.
2. Medfield (1-0)

Previous rank: 2
Next game: vs. Dover-Sherborn, Dec. 19, 6 p.m.
The Warriors also rolled in their season opener, downing Norton 63-24 after leading 43-9 at halftime. Between the final half of the 2024-25 season and the first half of this one, Medfield outscored Worcester South and Norton 86-16. That's nuts.
Naya Annigeri led with 19 points and sophomore Abby Broderick added 18 in the Tuesday victory.
3. Worcester South (1-1)

Previous rank: 3
Next game: at Northampton, Dec. 19, 7 p.m.
The Colonels haven't competed in-state yet, but they did travel to Washington D.C. for the She Got Game Classic, where they lost once close and blew out another opponent. Northampton has been a frequent Division 2 contender over the last few years, so this should be a good early-season matchup.
4. Bishop Feehan (2-0)

Previous rank: 4
Next game: vs. St. Mary's, Dec. 19, 6:30 p.m.
In defeating Catholic Central League rival Archbishop Williams on the road, the Shamrocks showed they have capable new leaders for this year's team and buy-in as a fast-paced squad that forces a ton of opposing turnovers. They have perhaps the toughest MIAA schedule before hitting winter break, with Friday's game against St. Mary's an early must-see matchup. Feehan also hosts perennial power Cathedral next Tuesday.
5. Springfield Central (1-1)
Previous rank: NR
Next game: at Longmeadow, Dec. 19, 7 p.m.
I need to apologize for bad info! All fall I have been hyping up Zi'Yan Wallace, a talented freshman who starred at Renaissance last year. It turns out she and her sister, Zh'Nai Wallace, have transferred to Springfield Central. That's a game-changer for a roster I was already afraid I was underrating. Central went 1-1 at the She Got Game Classic, but sophomore point guard Giavanna Mars is off to a strong start, and now the Golden Eagles have even more impact underclassmen. I'm going to jump on this bandwagon as quickly as possible.
6. Whitman-Hanson (1-0)
Previous rank: 5
Next game: at Silver Lake, Dec. 19, 6:30 p.m.
The Panthers flew past Scituate in their season opener, 62-27. Star Maliah Pierre led with 14 points, but senior guard Leah Daley (13 points) and Alayna Bathalon (12 points) also reached double figures. It's a good sign that Whitman-Hanson can look to a few contributors. Its Patriot League schedule this week also includes a quality Monday matchup with Quincy.
7. Bishop Fenwick (1-0)

Previous rank: 6
Next game: vs. Arlington Catholic, Dec. 21, 3 p.m.
With a convincing, 64-30 win against Newton South, the Crusaders are off and running. We've been touting the dynamic duo of Stonehill commit Caitlin Boyle and classmate Celia Neilson for months, and they delivered in the opener. Boyle racked up 20 points and seven rebounds, and Neilson brought in 17 points, eight rebounds, five steals and four assists.
8. North Quincy (1-0)

Previous rank: 7
Next game: at Pembroke, Dec. 19, 6 p.m.
Friday's matchup with Pembroke is a fantastic litmus test for both programs. The Titans are also projected Division 3 championship contenders, and both have balanced rosters with multiple possible scoring leaders. The Raiders showed that off in their 57-32 win against Marshfield this week. Guards Maeghan Smith (17 points) and Tabby McDonough (10 points) led the way.
9. St. Mary’s (2-0)

Previous rank: 8
Next game: at Bishop Feehan, Dec. 19, 6:30 p.m.
The Spartans haven't played super clean basketball yet and have still cruised to victories of 30 or more points against Pope Francis and Malden Catholic. Sophomore Gabi Lorenzini has hit double figures in both contests, and freshman McKenna O'Connell broke out against Malden Catholic with 19 points. The young roster will be tested at Bishop Feehan Friday, but it also presents a real statement opportunity.
10. Braintree (1-0)

Previous rank: 9
Next game: vs. Needham, Dec. 18, 6:30 p.m.
Tonight we get a rare Thursday night showdown between two strong Bay State Conference powers. Braintree took care of business in its season opener with a 73-27 rout of Weymouth. Juniors Izzy Rotondo and Eva Downing each scored a team-high 14 points. I think the Bay State Conference race is super close between Braintree, Needham and Natick, so I'll be interested to see how this game goes.
The next five:Â Cathedral, Natick, Archbishop Williams, Mansfield, Needham
Cathedral (who went 1-1 at the She Got Game Classic) drops out of the Top 10 through no fault of its own. I just had to get Springfield Central in there. Natick and Needham are both off to 2-0 starts, and Archbishop Williams showed me a lot in its competitive defeat to Bishop Feehan. Mansfield scored perhaps the biggest win of the last week, taking down Hockomock League rival King Philip in overtime. That should be another competitive conference race between those two programs, plus Oliver Ames and Foxboro.
