The MIAA championships once again delivered a full helping of thrilling games to cap the winter season.

Steve Hewitt and Ethan Fuller reconvened on the HoopWise Podcast to reflect on championship weekend. They each picked out three highlight moments from the slate and put them in larger contexts of the game and season.

They also discussed their top individual performers and what made their games special on the big stage.

Could Brody Bumila be a Division 1 basketball player?

Steve: “I think low-major. Just with his size, and his motor’s just relentless. I think that alone gets him on the floor. Obviously we’ve talked about, if he had picked basketball as his sport three years ago or whatever, he would’ve developed those skills. So I think he definitely could’ve been D1.”

What impressed you with Teegan Lanpher’s Div. 1 championship game for Wachusett?

Ethan: “Her competitive fire and also composure. Wachusett, sometimes they can kind of get in their own heads when things aren’t going well. That’s been one of the rare areas of weakness from the team is it can kind of spiral sometimes. But in those moments where things were a little bit on the ropes, she was very focused the whole time and never stopped being aggressive —never stopped attacking with drives and floaters. … I feel like everyone’s got a place in their heart for small guards, and especially ones that play with consistent energy and make shots too.”
