Scott Marino, a Malden Public Schools teacher and high school girls basketball coach, has been arrested and accused of raping an 18-year-old student, the Middlesex District Attorney’s office said in a press release Wednesday.
Marino, 54, is facing two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault on a person age 14 or older and an additional misdemeanor charge for providing liquor to an underage person. The release states that on Feb. 18, Marino allegedly provided alcohol to and sexually assaulted an 18-year-old woman he knew in Stoneham.
According to a statement from Malden Public Schools superintendent Timothy Sippell, provided to WCVB-Channel 5, the alleged incident involved a Malden high school student. Marino will be arraigned in Woburn District Court on Thursday.
Marino’s bio on his FieldLevel profile says he has coached the Malden girls for the past eight years before previously spending 20 years as a boys basketball coach. He also taught seventh-grade math at Linden STEAM Academy. Malden Public Schools placed Marino on leave upon learning of the allegations.
