The Board 27 Comcast Tournament is one of the premier MIAA basketball showcases every winter – and this season’s edition may be the best one yet.
The tournament – which takes place Feb. 13-15 at Emmanuel College in Boston – is something of an appetizer for the upcoming state tournaments and this year is no exception. Both the boys and girls fields feature state championship contenders across multiple divisions and exciting rematches from past tournaments. It’s not hyperbole to say that the best boys and girls teams and players in the state will be competing inside the Jean Yawkey Center.
The boys bracket includes Division 1 frontrunner Central Catholic, headlined by star Javi Lopez, and Division 2 contender Masconomet. Beverly and Abington – which feature two of the state’s best players in Jacob Klass and Kingston Maxwell – will take part in separate non-tournament showcase games.
There are two four-team girls brackets, and the tournament couldn’t have come up with much better ones. One bracket features two reigning champions and two of the best players in the state – Jae Scott and Wachusett, Naya Annigeri and Medfield – who could potentially match up in the title game. Two more contending teams, Bishop Feehan and North Quincy, make up that bracket, while Bay State Conference rivals Braintree and Walpole headline the other bracket.
