MILTON, Mass. — December brought us the first weekend of large-scale girls basketball events in New England, and my first stop was Sunday at Milton Academy.
The Girls Hoop Series Winter Classic brought 20 programs from a variety of NEPSAC classes (and outside NEPSAC!) together for 10 games. This showcase gave me a mix of top prospects I've watched many times, some underrated talents I wanted to see more of, and quite a few new names that caught my eye. And thank you to the folks at NERR for providing official box scores with every game! We need more girls events to follow your lead.
I caught at least a portion of every game on the slate, although for most of the day, two games overlapped. I typically tried to ride the hot hand of a matchup that was back-and-forth. Though I couldn't catch nearly everything, I got a better sense of where several prep programs stand right now and filled my evaluator's notebook with important observations.
