ROCK HILL, S.C. — Alex Egbuonu cemented his ascension into one of the best wing prospects in the country at the Adidas 3SSB Palmetto Road Championships.
Egbuonu (Nashua, N.H.), the 6-foot-6 wing for BABC and Lawrence Academy, has long been one of New England’s top Class of 2026 recruits, and this spring and summer, he made a national statement. He moved up to No. 48 in ESPN’s Top 100 – the second highest-ranked regional recruit in 2026 – while helping lead a BABC squad that was one of the best grassroots teams in the country this year.
Egbuonu was a force inside the Rock Hill Sports & Event Center during the Adidas 3SSB Championships as he averaged 20 points per game – including dominant 31-point and 26-point performances – as BABC made the 17U quarterfinals. A big wing, Egbuonu has continued to take strides this spring while asserting himself as a matchup nightmare. He’s a three-level scorer with guard skills who constantly pressures defenses and the rim with his ability to attack off the dribble, athleticism and overpowering physicality. Defensively, he has often played the 5-man for a small, guard-heavy BABC team and has thrived, even at 6-foot-6, as a rim-protector and inside defender.
Egbuonu’s recruitment is open. He has taken one official visit to Marquette, a program that invested heavily in him with frequent visits from head coach Shaka Smart, who was at all his games in Rock Hill. He has also taken unofficial visits to Auburn, Xavier, Providence and Boston College, and plans to set more official visits when the AAU season is over.
