AJ Dybantsa’s star rise continues as he places himself among Team USA’s decorated youth basketball winners.
The Brockton, Mass., native took MVP honors in this year’s FIBA U19 World Cup, leading the United States to a gold medal with Sunday’s 109-76 victory over Germany in Switzerland.
Dybantsa tallied 11 points, six rebounds and two assists in the gold medal matchup, and he averaged 14.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists across the tournament. He joined Mikel Brown Jr. as Team USA representatives on the All-Star Five team.
Two years ago, the United States’ U19 team failed to make the FIBA World Cup podium. This year’s iteration was the highest-scoring team in U19 World Cup history, averaged 114.1 points per game. It’s the ninth championship for Team USA at this level.
