AVON, Conn. — For a second consecutive weekend, hundreds of college basketball coaches packed into a New England gym. Several included representatives of high-major colleges around the country.
It’s no coincidence. The NEPSAC Scholastic Showcases have become a can’t-miss event for college programs, local and national, Division 1 to Division 3 alike. The region’s depth of college-bound recruits is comparable to other basketball hotbeds around the country. The second showcase weekend at Avon Old Farms, another critical event in the recruiting calendar, didn’t disappoint. It was often hard to find a seat on the baselines of the three courts that are reserved for college coaches.
The priorities, of course, are different for every coach at these events, based on their level, needs and other factors. But there’s always great intrigue with the frontcourt prospects – forwards, wings and bigs who can impact the game in a variety of ways are always in demand, and the more unique and skilled, the greater that intrigue and demand is.
On Monday, I revealed my top backcourt standouts from Avon, and now we shift to the frontcourt. Like the guards, this list included some established names but also a handful of hidden gems who should be on the radar of college programs. Here are 10 forwards, wings and bigs who caught my eye across Friday and Saturday’s action in Avon.
