ASHBURNHAM, Mass. — As the NEPSAC postseason begins next week, there’s no hotter team in the region than Cushing.
The Penguins continued their dominant run of form on Wednesday night with a wire-to-wire, 89-75 victory over Worcester Academy on senior night. They closed the book on their regular season with a 23-4 record – including a 15-1 mark in Class AA – and have now won 15 consecutive games.
Cushing, arguably the best defensive team in NEPSAC, did a great job slowing down Worcester Academy star Amir Jenkins on Wednesday night, but their offense was really humming. Ten different players got in the scoring column as their depth and cohesiveness was once again on display. In a fitting tribute to their departing class, the Penguins started all seniors or postgraduates – Jacob Davis, Jay Jones, Johnathan Price, Ryan Ward and David Melson – and that group produced a great start. Cushing never trailed.
Cushing – which will likely be the No. 1 seed in Class AA – will now get a deserved break until the NEPSAC quarterfinals next Wednesday. Here are five standouts from Wednesday’s matchup.
