Thayer Academy announced on Thursday that the school has hired Evan Carlson to be its new head basketball coach for the 2025-26 season.
Carlson brings experience on the AAU circuit as a head coach with both the MetroWest and Middlesex Magic, where he led the U15 team to multiple national tournaments. He has coached and developed more than 100 players across seven different age groups as a player evaluator with the Magic.
“In our search, Coach Carlson stood out as a candidate with an impressive combination of competitive basketball experience, extensive coaching in the AAU league, proven ability to recruit and develop student-athletes, and a strong understanding of the importance of creating an environment where our players feel known, connected, and prepared,” Thayer Athletic Director Bobbi Moran said in an email to Thayer basketball families announcing the decision.
Carlson’s hiring comes following the recent death of former head coach Mike Babul, who died on Dec. 30 after suffering a heart attack. Richard Fesik stepped in as the interim head coach.
