The New England Basketball League will crown a 2024-25 champion this weekend, and the league will finish its schedule with some exciting matchups that should provide great appetizers for the stretch run of the NEPSAC and prep season.
The NEBL – which was founded in 2019 – features eight of the top prep teams in the region in an effort to showcase the area’s top talent during a competitive, round-robin seven-game schedule over the course of the winter. Over two days at the Track at New Balance this weekend, each team will play its final two games of their NEBL schedule. There are no playoffs this season; the champion will be the leader of the regular-season standings.
Cushing (5-0), New Hampton (4-1), CATS (4-1), Putnam Science (3-2) and Newman (3-2) all enter the weekend with mathematical chances to win the league, with some juicy head-to-head matchups between those teams looming on Saturday and Sunday.
Four NEBL teams are included in our NEPSAC Top 10 this week. Putnam Science, though it is an associate member of the NEPSAC, has not been in these rankings this season because it doesn’t play a full NEPSAC schedule. But the Mustangs will certainly play a part in shaping next week’s Top 10; they play CATS and Cushing this weekend.
This week’s Top 10 also includes significant injury news that will impact a championship contender. Let’s dive in.
