BOSTON, Mass. — At its best, Newman turns games into track meets, playing fast in transition and wearing opposing teams with less depth down for 40 minutes.
But when the Cardinals get punched back, the game gets slowed down and things get a bit tense, they’re tough enough to handle those moments, too.
Look no further than Wednesday night, when Newman built a big early lead over Vermont Academy before the visiting Wildcats took it to them early in the second half to tie the game. But the Cardinals kept their composure, and responded with a dominant run en route to a 93-70 victory at the Track at New Balance.
“I think we’re gritty as hell,” said Newman senior guard Reggie Grodin. “We work super hard in practice, we’re used to conditioning, and I think this is actually pretty good for us. I feel like it’s good to face adversity sooner than later in the year so that we know how it feels to get punched in the face a little, get back up and knockout punch.”
