
BOSTON, Mass. — Ryan Moesch dribbled the ball into the frontcourt, and circled towards the Cushing bench as the final seconds ticked away at TD Garden. When the buzzer sounded, he tossed the ball away, and he and his waiting teammates erupted into a wild celebration on the parquet.
It was only Jan. 11, but the Penguins knew how significant this was. With an opportunity to prove themselves on a big stage, Cushing served a reminder of its great potential on Saturday night with a huge 61-57 victory over Newman, which had established itself as one of the best prep teams in both New England and the country over the first two months of the season.
The game – which was part of the New England Basketball League (NEBL) schedule – was the finale of the Andrew James Lawson Foundation Invitational, an annual day-long basketball event at TD Garden that features high school teams from around the area.
