Podcast: Previewing the 2024-25 boys NEPSAC season with Brad Feldman of Super Preps Hoops

At long last, the prep school season has arrived.

A handful of the top teams in New England have kicked off their schedules this month, and with the New England Basketball League (NEBL) Kick Off showcase this weekend, we have a lot of high-quality basketball on our plates.

Brad Feldman, creator of the Super Preps Hoops podcast and also the play-by-play voice of the New England Revolution, joined co-hosts Steve Hewitt and Ethan Fuller to preview the boys NEPSAC season. They touch on the teams they expect to contend for championships in the top classes, the must-watch stars around New England, some sleeper players they’re putting on breakout watch and more.

Feldman also has some news to share of his own regarding live coverage of NEBL games this winter.

Highlights

Can you explain a bit more about your new role with the NEBL and what the league is building for coverage?

Feldman: “This is an exciting time going into this weekend, November 16th (and) 17th at the Track at New Balance headquarters. As many of your listeners are already aware, NEBL is having their first of three showcase weekends and we’re going to be streaming that as per usual on the NEBL Youtube channel. I encourage everybody to get there because it’s a terrific facility for high-level basketball and all the day-of-game stuff there is going to be really good. But going forward, NEBL is going to be streaming on Game On, Total Sports Network Go!

“… They’re going to be producing the game on-site with a truck and everything. So, it’s going to be a big step up from what we’re used to seeing with most of these streams. It’s going to look more like a college basketball game, I think, and so it’s going to be really fun. And the best part is for several of the games, the one and only Vin Pastore is going to be our analyst, and that’s going to give it some real, not just expertise and gravitas, but New England flavor.”

CATS looks to be one of the most talented teams on paper. Jaylen Harrell is the star, but who else sticks out to you on that roster?

Hewitt: “He’s probably pretty known around these parts already, but Jaxson Terry. I’m not going to say he’s better than Jalen or anything, but my hot take is that he’s going to be in the discussion for Class AA Player of the Year. I just love his game. Maybe it’s just a little bias because I just love his game so much. But (he’s) just a smooth scorer. He can defend every position.”

Feldman:”The hardest part is going to be for Cary Herer to blend all these ingredients and make a perfect souffle, because you want to get a guy like Josiah Adamson on the floor. But Desmond Bellot is really, really good too. So, that’s a tough balance to strike. Hopefully they have enough games in the season that everybody gets some burn.”
