One of the best guards from New England is heading west.
Kelvin Odih (Providence, R.I.), who’s coming off a strong summer with Rhode Island Elite and has some of the best tools for a guard in the 2025 class, announced on Thursday that he’s transferring from South Kent to SoCal Academy – which is based in Los Angeles – for his senior season.
The news comes in the wake of a sudden coaching change this week at South Kent, where Raphael Chillious left his position as the head coach to take a job with the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies. Craig Carter, who was the team’s associated head coach last season, was promoted to head coach. Odih played one season at South Kent in 2023-24 after transferring from La Salle Academy last year.
Odih’s departure is a big blow for South Kent, which was seeking a bounce back season with the 6-foot-5 guard continuing as a fixture of the lineup alongside star Badara Diakite. Odih is one of the most athletically gifted and high-motor players from New England who Chillious described as one of the best offensive rebounding guards he’s ever coached.
