Oswin Erhunmwunse is heading to Friartown earlier than expected.
Erhunmwunse, a 6-foot-10 center who played for Putnam Science Academy and Boston Amateur Basketball Club (BABC), officially reclassified from the class of 2025 to 2024 on Monday and will enroll at Providence for the 2024-25 season, he announced on social media.
Erhunmwunse was the No. 31-rated recruit and second-ranked center by ESPN in the 2025 class and made the decision in the midst of a strong season for BABC on the AAU circuit. He verbally committed to Providence in January and there were whispers throughout the spring that he would head there early.
Erhunmwunse moved to the United States from Nigeria two years ago and quickly developed as one of the best recruits in the country. He led Putnam Science to back-to-back appearances in the national prep championship – including a 2023 title – as he became one of the best defensive players in his class. He averaged 9.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game for Putnam Science this season, and big things are expected at Providence.
