Joson Sanon is heading west this fall to play college basketball in the desert. Just not how he initially intended.
Sanon, a native of Fall River, Mass., and the No. 22-ranked player in the class of 2024 by ESPN, made a verbal commitment in March to attend Arizona.
But soon after Arizona star Caleb Love, last season’s Pac-12 Player of the Year, announced in late May that he would be withdrawing his name from the NBA Draft and returning to the Wildcats next season, Sanon flipped his commitment to rival Arizona State.
Sanon, a 6-foot-5 wing, also considered Kentucky, Kansas and UConn in the recruiting process, and he’s expected to make an instant impact with the Sun Devils.
